Christopher Brickell

A leading horticultural author, Christopher was awarded the RHS Victoria Medal of Honour in 1976 for his services to horticulture and the CBE in 1991
Christopher Brickell began his career with the Royal Horticultural Society in 1958, becoming Director of Wisley Garden in 1969. From 1985 until he retired in 1993 he was Director General and represented the Society's interests all over the world.

As well as lecturing in this country and abroad, he has contributed to a number of horticultural and botanical reference works and has published several books, including Dorling Kindersley's best-selling companion volume, the Royal Horticultural Society Encyclopedia of Plants and Flowers as Editor-in-Chief.

He is president of the International Society for Horticultural Science and chairman of the International Commission for the Nomenclature of Cultivated Plants.
