David Burnie, BSc, studied zoology and worked as a biologist before becoming a full-time science writer. He has written or contributed to more than 75 books and multimedia titles, including Apes and Bugs in the DK Secret Worlds series, Concise Encyclopedia of the Human Body, also published by DK, and Milestones of Medicine. His book How Nature Works was winner of the Science Book Prize. He has also worked as a consultant on BBC TV nature programmes.
