Richard Platt

Richard Platt is a well established author with more than 70 books under his belt. He has written and contributed to over 30 Dorling Kindersley titles including four Eyewitness Guides: Cinema, Pirate, Spy and Shipwreck. He has collaborated with Stephen Biesty on the Cross Section books and written witty and amusing text to work with the detailed drawings. The most recently published book of the Cross Section series, is Absolutely Best Cross Sections Ever (1999) is a collection of the best of Stephen and Richard's work to date. Other titles he has written include Children's Illustrated Encyclopedia, In The Beginning, various CD-ROMs and This Old House.

Richard started a university degree in Civil Engineering but soon realised that his talents could be put to better use in the field of graphic design. He changed his course which was a wise choice as he not only got a first but also came top of his year! He has worked as a full time writer since 1980.

Richard revels in facts that sound like fiction and relishes the challenge of uncovering forgotten details that turn history from a dry discipline into a gripping human drama.

Richard Platt lives in Kent with his wife and various animals. Find out more about Richard at: www.richardplatt.co.uk
